The London Planner
We supply all our clients who are visiting London with the current edition of the London Planner. This monthly publication lists all the shows that are taking place in the theatres, lists many of the restaurants you might want to visit and gives you details of other performances, exhibitions, concerts and daily programmes of events that are taking place round the city when you are there.
This will normally be sent to you with your final itinerary a few weeks in advance of your travel date.
Transportation and getting round the city
You will probably arrive at either London Heathrow (LHR) or London Gatwick (LGW)airport. Both offer high-speed rail links to the city centre and this is the ideal method to get into the city centre.
Heathrow is located about 10 miles west of the city and Gatwick is 20 miles south of the city centre.
If you prefer we can arrange to have a chauffeur meet you in the Arrivals Hall and take you straight to your hotel.
When in the city you should use the Tube or Underground. There is a superb network of tunnels linking dozens of stations on different lines and very quickly you will become an expert at crossing the city in just a few minutes.
London has several hop-on hop-off, open top bus tours that take visitors round all the main areas of the city. We recommend the Big Bus Tour and you can preorder tickets from us at a discounted rate.
We recommend you enjoy this tour on your first day as it allows you to become aware of where all the attractions are and the interesting commentary you receive from the guide or driver usually entertains the passengers.
Qualified tour guides
If you prefer to have your own tour guide for the day we have several excellent guides who will meet you at your hotel, remain with you all day taking you to places of interest and they will provide you with a fascinating commentary of the city.
The River Thames flows through the centre of the city and there are several good boat trips where you can enjoy a relaxing cruise and view the fascinating London Skyline. You may wish to include a boat trip in your itinerary if this appeals to you.
In addition, there are a few good dinner cruises where the menus are rather tasty, and this is a great way to watch the sunset and see London come alive at night with the varied lighting displays.
Another good trip we recommend is taking the boat from the Embankment near the Houses of Parliament downstream to Greenwich where the village is charming and where the Meridian Line lies, perhaps visit the Greenwich Naval Academy before taking the Docklands Light Railway back into the city centre.
